Tested with MAC OS X 10.5.6, PowerPC G4 1,25 GHz, 512 MB DDR SDRAM, SC2k version 1.1 and DOSBox 0.72. Default settings from install.exe were used. Switching back to window mode seems to fix this problem. All kinds of artifacts and flashing colors. DOSbox 0.72Had to run as administrator if not on runs and crashes. Both sound and mouse work fine. Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit Quad core phenom processor and 4gb ram. Sound card set to Sound Blaster AWE32, IO 220, IRQ 7, DMA 1, sounds just like I remember it! 1.0.1 () CD-ROM (installed to HDD) Mouse and music working OK. Tested on Windows XP SP3, with DOSBox 0.72, SC2000 v. Reseted SFX setup to Sound Blaster Compatile with HEX 220 - IRQ 7 - DMA 1 and it worked! but not all the time, seems to be rather random. (No CD boot, just install) Mouse and music worked OK but SFX were lacking. Tested on Windows XP SP2, with DOSBox 0.72. Mouse works fine, but sound and music is lacking. Tested on Fedora 9, with repository RPM: dosbox.i386 0.72-4.fc9.

The full version will have a "SOUND" subfolder, and will have options for configuring sound when running "install.exe" If you are not getting any sound at all, and running "install.exe" does not provide options for configuring sound, you may have the demo version. I've found the demo version of SimCity 2000 to be packaged without sound capabilities. Tested DOSBox 0.72 on Ubuntu 8.10: Intrepid Ibex Video, sound, and music all work fine after running "install.exe" and switching video to "VESA" and Sound to "Sound Blaster". Not running as administrator and UAC is enabled. Occasional music glitches, but still usable. Tested DOSBox 0.72 on Windows Vista Ultimate 圆4 Video, sound, and music all work fine after running "install.exe" and setting Sound to "Sound Blaster Pro 2" for music and "Sound Blaster Pro" for SFX. This game has been tested on the environments listed below: If you require support for general issues, see the performance guide and FAQ.
#RUN SIMCITY 2000 ON WINDOWS 10 UPDATE#
Please update this article if you have information which will let this game work with sound and music. Setting the correct IRQ/DMA/port settings does not seem to help. If you’re looking for slightly newer ways to pass the time, then leave the 1990s behind and get started with Steam instead, where thousands of PC games are available for you to play on Windows, macOS, and Linux. The game includes an INSTALL.EXE which sets the video and sound cards, however for the sound card, it reports a failure to verify the Sound Blaster, and other, cards.

If you’re looking to scratch that nostalgia itch, stick with Windows 10 and use compatibility mode, a virtual machine or a solution like DOSBOX to get your retro gaming fix. While Windows 10 isn’t really designed to play older Windows 95 games, it remains possible with a few workarounds. Some (but not all) games from this era require DOS to work-you’ll need to research the game you’re looking to play to check if this is the case. DOSBOX is free and available for download on multiple platforms, including Windows 10.ĭOSBOX, as the name suggests, will only work with DOS-based games. If you have the original files for a DOS-based game to hand, then you can give DOSBOX a try yourself without buying the game a second time. For some older DOS-based games, GOG includes DOSBOX, a DOS emulator that runs older games on Windows 10, alongside the game files. GOG is a gaming marketplace that allows you to buy older games without resorting to piracy, where suspicious files from dodgy-looking websites can often bring nasty surprises.

#RUN SIMCITY 2000 ON WINDOWS 10 INSTALL#
It’s possible to set up a Windows XP virtual machine using Virtualbox and Microsoft-provided files or, if you’re looking for a more realistic gaming experience for Windows 95 games on Windows 10, you could install Windows 95 in a virtual machine and play older games using the originally-supported operating system instead. Just don’t allow internet or network access to an older Windows virtual machine-it’s a security nightmare. Virtual machines are sandboxed and shouldn’t allow for any interaction between the host machine and the installed virtual machine (unless you allow it). If you can’t run older games using it, then installing an older version of Windows in a virtual machine might be the answer. Windows 10 isn’t the best operating system for playing older games. However, the Windows compatibility mode doesn’t work for every bit of older software out there-if your game doesn’t launch, you’ll need to try something else to play Windows 95 games on Windows 10. If Windows can find alternative settings, it will attempt to apply them and allow you to test them.
